T A Pai Management Institute's Quiz on the Beach
TAPMI (T A Pai Management Institute) organizes an annual management fest called 'Atharva'. As part of their effort to increase the publicity and the visibility of the fest they organize several 'outreach' style competitions in several Indian cities. We used to do the same for Shaastra and Saarang.
Quiz on the Beach is one of the main events of their management festival. It is business quiz organized bang near the picturesque western coast water near the city of Manipal. My guess is it would be an awesome experience. Especially, since it is organized around third week of January, which is the best time of the year to visit the western coast of India. They organized two city rounds for the quiz. Winners in each city would get a direct entry into the finals of the quiz. The two cities were Bombay and Bangalore.
Kalai and I teamed up again for this quiz. We dashed out of the campus at the last moment and got stuck in the traffic. Luckily, the organizers kept the traditions of Indian Standard Time flying high. And we made it just in time when it was about to start. The pre-lims was OK. Thankfully it was not current events based. Some of the questions were sitters. Like the one about SENSEX. I remembered the name of the founder of Naturals because I had been to their parlour a few days back. That helped.
The finals were a close call. There were 4 rounds of 6 questions each. Each round was followed by one question which was a picture connect. The four answers had a common connection. Nobody could guess it till the end. Some teams scored negative when they attempted to do that. In middle of all of this, we managed to best the second team by about 10 points. We scored 150 points overall in the finals. We attempted the link when there were no negative marks and got it wrong. But we won eventually.
We will be going to TAPMI sometime in Jan. Hope we will do well there. Here is a picture from that day.
PS: Corrections were made to the post, when a BIG error was pointed out by the organizers. It was an oversight on my part.

ReplyDeleteManipal doesn't organize the management fest ATHARVA, T.A.Pai Management Institute does..Manipal happens to be the name of a city, and the college is in the city...its like saying Bangalore organizes VISTA and UNMAAD, and not IIMB..
