Ramayan and Summer Placements in B-Schools
The
day that everybody was busily preparing for had arrived. In the long run, it
probably mattered to none. But it was THAT day. Everybody was feeling the
butterflies in their stomach.
Ravana
was all very well prepared. Ram was taking final printouts of his resume.
Hanuman was thinking of a few more resume points. Nal & Neel were revising
their civil-engineering fundaes from undergrad days. Vibhishan and
Sughreev were still unsure which companies to apply for.
Ravana
was shortlisted for a number of Day Zero companies. His resume was envied by
one and all in campus. He was an expert singer, sportsman, musician, trained
dancer. He had straight As in all his subjects. He had received awards from the
Director Dr. Shiva himself. He had an excellent work-experience having worked
in various capacities for Monsters. Inc. He was given several out of turn
promotions as he led them to number 1 position in a several markets. These
included territories of Devas, Yakshas, Vanaras, Serpants, Beasts and Humans. He
did have minor hiccups or two, but they failed to blemish his resume. His
undergrad days were stellar as well. He had Director's Gold Medal given to him
by none other than legendary Dr. Brahma. No doubt, he was in the hot list of
many companies, including some top consulting and finance companies.
Hanuman
was very sure he wanted a marketing role for himself. He had displayed a knack
for executing attention-capturing activities. This included his attempt to
capture the sun, with the intention of monetizing it as a toy. He had also
acted as PR agent of a company based in central India. This was considered to
be a challenging role, since the company had lost market share heavily. His
boss, Mr. Sughriv was searching for new territories, when Hanuman entered into
an alliance. This alliance was able to capture the market back. He had also
done guerrilla marketing, bootstrap marketing and viral marketing for Rama in
southern markets. He was the winner of several case study competitions
including Searover, LIME (Lanka Ignited by Monkey Envoy), BRAC (Become Rama’s
Advisor Challenge), J&J Quest (Jatayu and Jamwant search for Sita), Monkey War-Room among
others. He had also single handedly developed battlefield medical solutions and
was the only one to do so in Rama’s army of 1,00,000 monkeys. He was still
fine-tuning the numbers to quantify his achievements.
Ram
was a fresher with no work-ex. He graduated without getting a good placement
and had wasted his time at a start-up. He was practicing mock interviews and
GD’s with his best friend, Lakshman. Lakshman knew about Ram’s lack of communication
skills. He had miscommunicated instructions a number of times, including once
when Ravana’s cute sister made advances on them. A floor above them, Sita
sat silently in the corner. She was one of the very few female candidates. She
was slightly nervous about the swayamwar she would get to do with consulting
and the banking companies.
Meghnad
was another hot and favourite day zero candidate. He was keen on investment
banks. He was a talented fresher and had defeated finance gods (Yakshas) in
numerous finance competitions. Meanwhile, he was worried about the snoring
Kumbhakaran. He thought, Kumbha might have to wait for the start-ups on the day
4.
