Bad Economic News of the Day (BEND) Index 2
Today was a mixture of good and bad news. This seems interesting to me. I am now trying to figure out a way to quantify economic and financial news i.e. the degree of how good or bad the financial and economic news of the day is. One thing that is clear to me at this stage is the fact that I should only include news that is factual in nature. It should point to some fact about the condition of economy or a part of it. No opinion columns. I guess fact based columns will give a good indication of whether times are gloomy or euphoric. But how exactly would it be beneficial in any decision making process is still subject to several questions.
Let us start with the bad news first
Bad:
- Declining Profits
- Rising Interest Rates
- Exiting Foreign Companies
- Dropping Coal Demand
- Falling Share Markets
- Falling Share Markets
- Rock Bottom Share Values
- Falling Rupee
- Lower than expected tax collections
- Business Disputes hitting fuel supplies
- Falling Profits
- Falling Consumption
Good:
- New Investments
- Reforms
- Rising Profits
- Rising Hydro Power Generation
- Infrastructure Investment
- Rising Credit Demand
Score: Bad 12: Good 6
Better than yesterday.
