Bad Economic News of the Day (BEND) Index

Everyday, the most depressing part of my routine is reading the economic and financial newspapers and press. One depressing story after another. A good monsoon has failed to lift the spirits in India. Bad global macro-economic conditions have not helped either. I am thinking of keeping a track of front page good and bad economic news from the financial press in India. These will be only front page articles.

The moment the number of good articles > number of bad articles, for a consistent time period like a week, I would say we are out of trouble. So for today, here they are

Bad:
  1. Decreasing Service output
  2. Falling Hotel Occupancy
  3. Placement and Job Market problems in colleges
  4. Drop in output
  5. Falling Rupee
  6. Foreign Companies Exiting
  7. Strikes in industries
  8. Falling share prices
  9. Contracting output in emerging markets
  10. Tightening money supply
  11. Falling Capitalisation of the share market
Good:
  1. None
Score: Bad:11+
           Good: 0
